4Gon gave timely updates via email on the status of this order and it was delivered within a few days. I had been recommended to use Ubiquiti equipment at home as the standard BT HomeHub wifi was not able to cover the entire house. I already have ethernet points in most downstairs rooms so I was able to install this AP in a central location where it would reach all corners of the house.
I installed the PoE power supply in the 'network cupboard' which means that the connection in the room where the AP is situated is a single Cat5e cable.
Installing the Ubiquiti UniFi controller software on my pc was simple. This is particularly pleasing as my pc runs Linux. The controller software is used to configure the AP and does not have to run all the time (unless you want to utilise some of the guest access features).
Initially, my Chromecast v1 did not work with the AP. However, after a quick look at the Ubiquiti forums it seemed that a firmware update would help. The UniFi software has an option to enable automatic firmware updates on the AP. I checked this box and the firmware was updated quickly and without any problem. I tried Chromecast again and it worked perfectly.
The coverage the AP gives is much better than the HomeHub with a speedtest showing that in most places in the house the wifi speed is now running at the maximum speed of the BT broadband (about 32Mbps).
An added benefit of buying the 802.11ac version is that ac enabled devices are able to utilise the higher speeds.
I am very happy with this purchase, I just wish I had bought one before.
