I bought the Ubiquiti Unifi to offer a hotspot in a cafe with a redirect to a URL upon login. The Ubiquiti is pretty good overall, especially for the price. I'll explain the main problem below.
PROS:
Setup was truly plug and play, very easy and quick, not a techie experience. Connection is strong and range is very good.
CONS:
Not many apps or devices trigger the guest control login page. The Guest Control offers good choices, however the login process for guests is clunky and varies widely depending on what device they're using ie. mobile or laptop, which brand, which browser etc. They sit there trying to work it out and we have to suggest "try this, try that". For example, on my MacBook, when the login expires (we've set an expiry time in Guest Control), only in Safari does the login page appear and I realise it's timed out; if I'm in Firefox or Mail or any other application, they just lose connection and freeze, until I remember "oh it must have timed out", return to Safari, refresh a page and see the option to login again.
Same issue on my iPhone. Once connection expires, only by refreshing a Safari page will the login page appear. If in Mail or WhatsApp or any other app, they just freeze and say 'no connection' -- it would be good if the login page popped up no matter what you're doing.
I emailed support yesterday to see if this can be streamlined but am waiting for a response.
